A Summer Favourite Made Better with Grinders

Iced coffees are not a new phenomenon by any means. They are, however, a blank canvas for creativity, where new flavour combinations, ingredients, and brewing methods can reinvent and revitalise your go-to summer drink.

How to make iced coffee:

  • Brew a strong shot of espresso or coffee
  • Pour over ice and add your milk of choice, sweetening to taste.
  • Stir and enjoy!

An iced coffee is only as tasty as the coffee bean. Exclusively roasting the freshest beans — from medium roast four bean blends to specialty single origin beans — our coffee artisans are experts in creating an elevated drinking experience, whether hot or cold.

How to make the top 3 coffee drinks for summer

1. A smooth cold brew: waiting for you every morning

As the name suggests, cold brew uses a cold water extraction process that has become increasingly popular over the last few years. With a steeping time of 12-24 hours, it treats your palate to a higher concentration of caffeine with reduced acidity and a smoother taste, helping you taste nuanced flavour notes unique to your coffee bean.

With plenty of cold brew coffee recipes on Instagram, Pinterest and recipe blogs, you’re suddenly tasked with complicated steps and single-use equipment — and we know you don’t want the hassle on hot days. Grinders’ coffee blends don’t need all the fuss to deliver a sensory overload in every brew. With a few simple steps and minimal effort, you can have a perfectly brewed cup of cold brew coffee at home, waiting for you in the fridge.

Ingredients:

  • Filtered water (water quality makes a big difference in the taste)
  • Single-origin coffee beans (preferably whole beans, but arabica ground coffee is also suitable)
  • Ice cubes

Equipment:

  • Jar with a lid or similar
  • Sieve or fine mesh strainer

Method:

  1. Coarsely grind Grinders Single Origin Coffee Beans (if you don’t have a machine to grind beans, you can also use Grinders Rich Espresso Ground Coffee)
  2. Combine with cold, filtered water in a jar using a ratio of 1 part coffee to 4 parts water.
  3. Let your brew steep in the fridge for 12-24 hours, strain, and serve over ice.
  4. Add milk and sweetener to taste!

2. Sweet iced coffee with an extra flair

Who says that you can’t be a barista at home? Saving yourself a lot of time and money, this recipe is an exciting twist to your classic caffeine kick — sure to ignite your senses and add a spring to your step every time.

If you’ve never heard of cold foam, it is essentially the frothy, aerated milk you see on the top of iced coffees and cold brews sold at cafes and bubble tea shops. As a fun alternative to milk, you can watch as the cloud of sweet milk gently settles into your drink. With notes of honey, malt and cocoa, it easily pairs with the silky sweet Crema Grinders Coffee Beans (also available as ground coffee) for a cohesive and creamy cold drink you won’t want to put down.

Ingredients:

  • Grinders Crema Ground Coffee or Coffee Beans
  • Cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp thickened cream
  • Syrup to taste (hazelnut, vanilla or caramel)

Equipment:

Method:

  1. Pour a fresh shot of the Crema coffee blend into a glass of ice and cold water, leaving the cup ¾ full.
  2. Change your electric milk frother’s setting to cold and pour in your cream and milk. Add your syrup, adjusting the amount to how sweet you prefer your iced coffee
  3. Alternatively, pour your milk, cream and syrup into a jar and use a handheld milk frother to aerate it. Or add a lid to the jar and shake it until the mixture becomes frothy.
  4. Add the sweet cold foam to your drink and enjoy!

3. Christmas flavours with a twist

We often miss out on classic Christmas flavours and drinks simply because it’s too hot to enjoy them. With this beloved summer coffee recipe, you can get into the festive spirit while keeping cool.

We call this drink the Candy Cane cold brew mojito. As a fun reinvention of the famous cocktail, this summer coffee recipe can be enjoyed with or without alcohol. Whether by the pool or hosting a Christmas celebration for your friends, this minty, sweet and punchy drink will perfectly refresh your spirits with good tidings!

Grinders Classic Coffee Beans and Espresso Ground Coffee perfectly complement these flavours. Prepared as a cold brew coffee at home, their sweet and smooth notes will sing in every sip. In evening settings, our decaf coffee blend will allow you to still enjoy the flavours without staying awake all night.

Ingredients:

  • Filtered water (water quality makes a big difference in the taste)
  • Grinders Classic Coffee Beans or Grinders Espresso Ground Coffee
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 15ml lime juice
  • Mint leaves
  • Soda water
  • Ice cubes

Equipment:

  • Jar with a lid or similar
  • Sieve or fine mesh strainer

Method:

  1. Coarsely grind Grinders single-origin coffee beans (you can also use Grinders ground coffee if you don’t have a machine).
  2. Combine with cold, filtered water in a jar at a ratio of 1 part coffee to 4 parts water.
  3. Let steep in the fridge for 12-24 hours.
  4. Muddle mint, lime and sugar in a glass.
  5. Add ice, top with cold brew, and a splash of soda water.

Hot Tip!

If you want to keep your iced coffee cool but don’t want to dilute its flavour, try freezing brewed a Grinders Coffee blend in ice cube trays and adding it to your glass to pack a strong and refreshing punch in every sip.
