Mittabrew Cafe in Mittagong is a cozy and welcoming spot, in the Southern Highlands of NSW, known for its delicious coffee and delightful menu. With a warm ambiance and friendly service, it’s a favourite among locals and visitors alike. The cafe offers a range of fresh, homemade dishes, making it a perfect place for breakfast, lunch, or a quick coffee break. They also host a monthly specialised dinner which has quickly become a local favourite.

We talk to Head Barista of Mittabrew, Huma about all thing’s coffee!

Tell us a little bit about you?

I’ve always loved coffee. As a Customer and now as Head Barita at Mittabrew.

When I was a Customer, I would order my coffee and watch the barista’s work madly behind the machines, pouring shots, making the milk silky and creamy, perfecting their craft.

I was particularly interested in latte art.  Which lead me to learning many tips and tricks I use know to perfect my latte art craft.

Tell us, how do you drink your coffee?

Oh, do I have to pick just one? I always start with a short, sharp, quick espresso, which gets me through to mid-morning where I take a piccolo.

What are your tips to make better coffee?

Always weigh your shots, make sure they pour to your target time and adjust your grinder as you go.  With milk, the most important is to get the right texture of the milk.

What new trends or changes have you seen coming from your customers or the industry?

Times are tough! Which has made for challenging conditions.

We’re a new business and it can be quiet in our area.

Customers are not spending as much as before, so we must always look for new ways to drive our business.

Can you tell us about your relationship with Grinder’s Coffee?

We love Grinders! And couldn’t be with a better coffee partner.

As a new business, it can be challenging but they have been supportive every step of the way, from start to finish.

A big shout out to Brien, our Territory Manager. Brien talked through our business plans, goals and overall offering. We workshopped ways to attract new customers. We have started doing local monthly dinners which have been a great success.

What makes Mittabrew Cafe a great place to work?

It sounds cliche. Buts its really that simple! Good staff, who value teamwork and I love that we have lots of jokes while working 🤣
