We talk to Asha, the head barista at Open House Cafe about all things coffee.
Tell us a little bit about you?
I’ve been working at Open House Cafe for over 2.5 years now, and I have been a barista for about 4 years. I love making coffee and get great joy from seeing people’s faces light up when they receive a drink with great latte art. I know all my regulars coffee orders by heart & have them ready when they walk in the door.
Good coffee is something that can really make someone’s day, I love that.
What are your tips to make better coffee?
It’s simple, but something I always think about in a rush, if you make the coffee with love, your customers really do taste it! Put that little bit of extra effort in and it will make you a better barista and it will make your customer’s day!
How do you drink your coffee?
Strong piccolo. A nice strong coffee to start the day!
Can you tell us about your relationship with Grinders Coffee?
I’ve been working with Grinders Coffee throughout my entire career as a barista. The standout for me has always been the people—our Territory Manager has built a great relationship with us, truly understanding our business and helping us grow. Grinders Coffee is an incredible company to work with, and in my four years with them, their coffee quality has been unparalleled.
In an industry that is forever evolving, what are some trends you have noticed in your day-to-day?
I’ve noticed we are getting a lot of matcha and turmeric latte requests lately. I think having a coffee alternative for customers is a great way to encourage people to sit and enjoy more than one drink with their breakfast or lunch.
What makes Open House Cafe a great place to work?
Our regulars customers. I know their orders as well as I know their names and love seeing them each day. Open House is more than just a cafe, it’s a community.
