Beechworth bakery started in 1984 with the opening of the original store in Beechworth it has since expanded with 8 stores total across Victoria, with the Echuca store opening in 2001.
We talk to Lachlan, the winner of the Beechworth Bakery Barista competition about his time with Beechworth Bakery Echuca and his love for making coffee.
Tell us a little bit about you?
I’ve been working for the Beechworth Bakery Group for a little over 8 years & recently been promoted to Front of House Supervisor. I started coffee training after finishing school, I’ve been working on the machine since. I have always been interested in latte art and brewing the best coffee.
In 2023 I entered the Grinders Coffee x Beechworth Bakery Barista Competition and came 3rd! This ignited a passion in me and made me want to hone my skills. I entered the Barista Competition again this year & with all my extra training and Grinders Coffee’s support I won the competition! It just goes to show what you can achieve when you really put your mind to something & challenge yourself.
What are your tips to make better coffee?
No matter how busy things might feel in the moment, take your time, follow the coffee recipe. If you focus on following all the right steps the drinks will not only be delicious but also, you’ll work through that order rush in no time!
What is your favourite item from the menu?
It’s a toss-up between the Bavarian Ring or a Beechworth Steak Pie!
Can you tell us about your relationship with Grinders Coffee?
Beechworth Bakery has been a loyal Grinders customer for over 8 years now (long before I started with the bakery!), the support we receive from the Coffee Specialist and our Account Manager is brilliant. There are constant training sessions in the bakeries and always someone there to ask for help if you need, it’s a great place to learn & hone your coffee skills.
What makes Beechworth Bakery Echuca a great place to work?
The People! Everyone in the Bakery gets along well, even when you have people visiting from some of the other stores. It’s a big family really.
