Our passionate coffee specialists share their tips and tricks on how you can save money, reduce your carbon footprint and support our coffee farms with a few simple changes to how you operate.

Reducing your coffee wastage can be as easy as investing in coffee scales or an automatic grinder, and up-skilling your baristas. With these changes, you will be able to get more coffee out of each bag and provide a consistent shot that will keep your customers coming back for more.

Once you finished for the day, what do you do with the left-over grounds? There are many options available to help you reduce coffee waste. Organisations like Planet Ark are often coming up with ingenious ways to reuse coffee grounds, from bio-cups to body scrubs to creating sunglasses, so it’s always good to do some research to see what’s best for you and your business.

Another way is to re-use coffee grounds is as a compost. We recommend getting in touch with your local councils and community gardens to see how your grounds can be used to nurture nature rather than adding to the greenhouse gasses at the tip.

Global warming has an impact on the temperature and weather in the areas our coffee is grown. When floods and storms negatively affect our farmers and their crops, not only does this have a devastating effect on the families and community; it puts pressure on the coffee industries supply, driving costs that will inevitably have to be absorbed by yourself or your customers. What we do now to reduce our carbon footprint on the world, can save you and the coffee industry from huge issues later.

As our coffee specialists say, “it’s good that the industry has found ways to eliminate as much coffee wastage as possible and is able to convert them into something more beneficial like energy or fertilizers.”
