Celebrating St Patick’s Day with Irish Coffee

Grinders Coffee Ambassador, Jono Goldthorpe shares his go-to Irish Coffee recipe.

My favourite thing about Irish Coffee, beside the coffee of course, is the contrast between the hot coffee and the cold, thick cream. So comforting and indulgent!

I recommend using our single origin coffees like our current coffee from Papua New Guinea, however all our coffees will taste great, such as Grinders Source.

Best brewed using a filter method such as a V60, however your favourite brew method will be able to adapt. Up your Irish coffee game with some new gear on our shop page

Please drink responsibly and feel free to replace the whiskey with more coffee.

Irish Coffee recipe

Ingredients

120mls freshly brewed Grinders Coffee

30mls whipped, heavy cream (thickened or pure cream)

30mls of your favourite Irish whiskey

1 tsp sugar (brown, coconut, panella or demerara recommended)

Equipment

A grinder or hand grinder

Your favourite brewer (like this V60 Switch)

A cocktail shaker or milk foamer.

A jug for pouring and a spoon.

A 200ml Irish coffee glass or wine glass.

Method

1) Start by brewing a fresh cup of Grinders Coffee using your preferred method. Try our Source blend or one of our single origin coffees.

2) Add a teaspoon of sugar and 30ml of whiskey to the glass. Stir until fully dissolved.

3) Pour in the hot brewed Grinders coffee and stir gently to combine.

4) Pour the cream into a cocktail shaker or jug if you’re using a milk foamer. Shake or mix well for roughly 20 seconds or until it begins to thicken.

5) Carefully float the lightly whipped heavy cream on top of the coffee mixture. You can pour it over the back of a spoon to help it float gently on top.

Note: Adjust the amount of sugar and whiskey to taste. Try with your favourite Grinders Coffee.
