In the heart of Perth’s CBD, is Uplift Café.

With the sweetest of tunes, the most delicious coffee and father daughter duo behind the machine, Uplift Café is a must visit coffee destination for our Perth City workers.

We take 5 to talk with Head Barista Diya to see how she keeps the busy throng of Perth-ites happy, caffeinated and ready for work!

What do you love about coffee?

Our family is a real coffee family. As far as I can remember, I’ve been drinking coffee. My grandma used to make me coffee and I have fond memories of a good book and the taste of great coffee.

What is you go-to coffee order?

Most days it’s a long black, but in Perth’s warmer weather, I love a delicious cold brew or an iced latte.

What’s your favourite part of working as a barista?

Every day is like a new day! I love the interactions with customers, their stories and discussion topics. And there is no better feeling when a customer comes back and says they enjoyed their coffee.

What new trends or changes have you seen coming from your customers or the industry?

The introduction of new technology with more automation which is driven by customers being more quality conscious. Customer want quality and consistency and are constantly looking for places that stand out. People seem to be going for stronger coffee and alternative milks – there is a big shift to people wanting oat milk right now.

If you could give baristas one tip to help baristas make better coffee, what would it be?

I always serve customers the way I like to be served, service with a smile! A technical tip would be to control and monitor dose weight and time, consistency and of course, practice.

What do you think is special about Grinders Coffee?

We’re currently using the Classic blend and I really like that’s it’s a little darker but still sweet and balanced. Grinders has great support and is always there at the back end to help us. Our Territory Manager, Georgie, visit’s us every week to check in.

Last but not least. …What’s your favourite menu item from your café?

Our Nutella latte. I think it’s amazing, a really delicious treat. Hard to resist on a Friday, the end of the working week.
